Saturday's Ryman South action review

By David Watters

Folkestone Invicta stretched their advantage at the top of the Ryman South table to fourteen points on Saturday with a 1-0 win at lowly East Grinstead Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And to make it an even better day for Neil Cugley`s side, second-placed Worthing were held to a 2-2 draw at home to play-off contenders Carshalton Athletic.

The only goal at East Grinstead came with 11 minutes remaining from Harry Smith.

While at Woodside Road, a good crowd of 587 saw Omar Bugiel give the home side the lead with a header three minutes before the break. Will Hendon then doubled the Rebels` lead just shy of the hour-mark.

However, two penalties, both converted by Tommy Bradford in the 65th and 74th minutes, denied the home side all three points.

Fourth-placed Dorking Wanderers edged out Hastings United by the odd goal in five in front of 361 at the Pilot Field.

Ben Dyett scored the only goal of the opening half after 17 minutes to take the visitors into the break ahead. Matthew Briggs then doubled Dorking`s lead on 58 minutes, only for Billy Medlock to reduce the deficit in the 69th minute.

Briggs' second of the game made it 3-1 on 79 minutes, with Tyrell Richardson-Brown pulling one back two minutes from time.

Fifth-placed Herne Bay beat mid-table Molesey 3-1 at Winch`s Field.

An own goal by Craig Lewington put Bay in front after 23 minutes. Dan Johnson doubled their advantage in the 37th minute, only for Dre Grobler to respond within a minute for the visitors.

A Danny Walder penalty 10 minutes after the interval gave Bay a 3-1 lead they held on to.

Most of the remainder of the chasing pack saw their games postponed on Saturday. However, a crucial game at the other end of the table saw fourth-bottom Walton & Hersham pull five points clear of third-bottom Peacehaven & Telscombe after beating them 3-2 at Stompond Lane.

It was the visitors who drew first blood after 39 minutes through Chris Ransome. The Swans pulled level within three minutes through CJ Williams.

Michael Salako eventually put the home side into the lead with 16 minutes remaining. However, there was still time for a further two goals.

Ransome scored his second to bring Haven level in the 82nd minute, only for sub Eden Dewar-Douglas to net the winner five minutes later with virtually his first touch of the ball.

Bottom-markers Whitstable Town picked up a late point from their trip to Tooting & Mitcham United but are still fourteen points adrift of Walton & Hersham.

The visiting Oystermen got off to a good start with a goal inside the opening five minutes through Stuart King. Chace O`Neil equalised around the half-hour mark but it wasn`t until 20 minutes from time when sub Prince M`Bengui gave the Terrors the lead.

However, in the 83rd minute, joint boss Wayne Wilson`s free-kick salvaged a point for the visitors.

In the remaining game at The Sports Ground, there were five goals and eight bookings between Chatham Town and Three Bridges, who edged the encounter 3-2.

Experienced striker Allan Tait gave Bridges a third minute lead that Ricky Gundry immediately cancelled out. Jamie Brotherton quickly restored the visitors` lead in the 8th minute.

It wasn`t until the 75th that the next goal came and it was a second for the much-travelled Tait. Gundry notched his second in injury-time but Bridges held firm to claim the spoils.
