Saturday's Ryman South action review

By David Watters

Folkestone Invicta`s lead at the top of the Ryman South table was 'reduced' to sixteen points on Saturday after they were held to a draw at Walton Casuals, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The home side took the lead at the Moatside Stadium when Gabriel Odunaike struck in the ninth minute.

Invicta were back on level terms five minutes later through Harry Smith but they were kept at bay by some resolute defending by Casuals, who lost sub Stefan Cox to a straight red card in the final few seconds.

Elsewhere, all bar Hythe Town who started the day in the top five won on Saturday.

Hythe lost 3-0 at Reachfields to second-placed Dorking Wanderers, whose Dane Luchford headed them in front after 37 minutes.

Two goals close to half-time from Luke Hackett and then a Craig Cloke own goal, sealed the victory for Wanderers.

Third-placed Worthing also won, 3-0 at Chatham Town, with goals from Lloyd Dawes a minute before half-time and then Ben Pope on 74 minutes and Harvey Sparks a couple of minutes later.

And to make their goal difference the same, fourth-placed Herne Bay also won 3-0 at Winch`s Field against third-bottom Walton & Hersham.

James Turner gave Bay a 33rd minute lead that Dan Johnson quickly doubled. Joe Nelder then made it virtually game over with a third just before the break.

Hastings United took Hythe`s place in the top five after an emphatic 6-1 drubbing of bottom-markers Whitstable Town at the Pilot Field.

But they had to come back from an early fourth minute Stuart King goal down to win, with Billy Medlock and Sean Ray giving Hastings an interval lead.

Medlock and Ray added to their personal tally in the second period, alongside efforts from sub Tyrell Richardson-Brown and Ollie Rowe.

Corinthian-Casuals gave their top five hopes a massive boost by winning 2-1 at fellow contenders Faversham Town.

Jamie Byatt broke the deadlock to give Casuals a 48th minute lead that Shaun Okojie added to seven minutes later.

Luke Harvey ensured a nervy finale when he pulled one back with 10 minutes to go but the visitors held on to move to within a point of their hosts and a point behind Hastings.

However, Ramsgate`s hopes took a nosedive after they were beaten 1-0 at Southwood by Tooting & Mitcham United, whose Chace O`Neil grabbed the only goal after 11 minutes.

Molesey too are also four points behind the play-off places after they were also beaten at home, despite taking an early fourth minute lead against Three Bridges through Charlie Samuels.

Hakeem Adelakun levelled seven minutes later but it wasn`t until time added on at the end of the game that Jamie Brotherton won it for Bridges.

Guernsey FC's poor away form looks like it will cost them a top five spot and the Channel Islanders are now seven points adrift of Hastings after losing by the odd goal in seven at Whyteleafe.

Robbie Legg gave the visitors a fifth minute lead which was wiped out by Sam Clayton after 15 minutes and Daryl Coleman right on half-time.

Ross Allen levelled shortly after the break and Craig Young restored the visitors` lead on 65 minutes. But veteran Roscoe D`Sane and then sub Ike Robertson-Fehi won it for `Leafe in the final 10 minutes.

Chipstead won a relegation `six-pointer` at High Road against second-bottom Peacehaven & Telscombe, thanks to goals from Charlie Carter after three minutes and Dan Summers four minutes later – Derek Ubah replying on 26 minutes.

Chipstead are now fourth-bottom, while East Grinstead Town are only a point above them now after losing 2-1 at Woodstock Park against Sittingbourne.

The Brickies came back from an early fifth minute goal from the much-travelled Moses Ashikodi to win, courtesy of former Wasp Tom Carlse after 33 minutes and then sub Michael Hurcombe in stoppage time at the end of the contest.

South Park won their derby at home to Carshalton Athletic, thanks to a 24th minute Kieran Lavery penalty in the day's final fixture.
