Saturday's Ryman South action review

By David Watters

Although the destination of the Ryman South championship was decided a few weeks ago, who makes the play-offs is still wide open with six teams chasing the four berths, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Second-placed Dorking Wanderers have two games in hand after they had their match against Guernsey FC postponed on Saturday and they were joined on 84 points by Worthing and Hythe Town.

The Rebels hammered Tooting & Mitcham United 5-1 at Woodside Road in front of a good crowd of 568 with Jordan Maguire-Drew netting a first half hat-trick.

Omar Bugiel and Steve Metcalf added the other two, with a Jake Baxter penalty being the Terrors` consolation 6 minutes from time.

Hythe had a 2-0 win at Woodstock Park against Kent rivals Sittingbourne, courtesy of goals from Dave Cook after 21 minutes and Alfie May just before the break.

Hastings United occupy fifth spot after they ended Molesey`s outside chances of mounting a top five challenge at the Pilot Field with a 4-2 victory.

Billy Medlock bagged a brace either side of a Sam Adams effort, with Zac Attwood adding the other 15 minutes from time – Charlie Samuels and Jamie McShane were on target for the Moles.

Faversham Town and Corinthian-Casuals are the other two teams still in contention and both enjoyed wins against sides from Walton-on-Thames.

Faversham hammered Walton Casuals 7-0 at the Shepherd Neame Stadium with Dean Grant netting the first four – all in the opening 27 minutes! George Monger, Josh Stanford and Kieron Campbell added the others in the second half.

Casuals won 3-0 at Stompond Lane with second half goals from Shaun Okojie, Sekou Kaba and James Cottee.

At the other end of the table, Whitstable Town and Peacehaven & Telscombe are already doomed to finishing in the bottom three.

Walton & Hersham are all-but doomed to join them as fourth-bottom East Grinstead Town only need a point to put the Swans down after beating Whistable 3-1 at home, thanks to a Trevor McCreadie brace after George Bonner`s 20th minute opener had been cancelled out by Craig Thompson.

Elsewhere, Chipstead secured their place in the division after a 1-0 win at Chatham Town - Dan Summers scoring a last-gasp winner for Chips.

Herne Bay beat South Park by the odd goal in five at Winch`s Field, thanks to a Danny Walder brace in the first half after Kofi Quartey`s opening minute goal for the visitors had been cancelled out by Danny Williams – Kieran Lavery adding a second for Park 13 minutes from time.

Ramsgate beat Whyteleafe 3-0 at Southwood with goals from Joe Taylor either side of a Luke Wheatley effort – the second coming from the spot.

And champions Folkestone are not relaxing after beating Carshalton Athletic 3-1 at the Fullicks Stadium with goals from Ian Draycott on the half-hour mark, in-demand Harry Smith four minutes later and then Ronnie Dolan in stoppage time at the end after Michael Campbell had replied for the Robins.
