Carshalton Athletic manager Rob Scantelbury has stood down despite achieving his brief of keeping the Robins in the Ryman League.

Scantlebury, pictured, took over from Stuart Massey at the Ryman South's Robins back in November before stepping aside on Thursday after guiding the club to nine wins, five draws and fifteen defeats.

Scantlebury had brought the feel-good factor back to Colston Avenue after winning 16 points from his first six home games in charge but decided to step down after a long string of away defeats since the New Year ended in an 18th place finish.

Scantlebury said: “It`s time for a fresh face to take over and help the first-team push on next season. I’ve done what was asked of me and I am now looking forward to my next challenge.”

Carshalton Athletic chairman Paul Dipre hailed Scantlebury`s hard work over the past six months.

He said: “For someone who took up their first senior role within Ryman football I couldn't have asked for any more.

"We have a well-organised, motivated squad which is now a few players away from being good enough to mount a challenge next season, and that's down to Rob and his management team.

He added: "We have already had discussions with prospective successors and will be making an announcement in due course.”
