Scholars do themselves a power of good- and dent K’s promotion hopes

By Ian Townsend

Elsewhere, the Dockers get back to winning ways, Chipstead dent Sports promotion hopes, whilst the Moles and Green Lions play out a draw. It’s our Pitching In Isthmian League round up.

Potters Bar Town made it three wins from four when defeating Kingstonian last night- and the K’s will very much be sick of the sight of the Scholars, as two of those three wins came against the side from King George’s Field. Only seventeen days since Bar travelled to Tolworth and defeated Hayden Bird’s men two-one, last night at the LA Construction Stadium they did exactly the same again. After a goalless first half, new signing Calvin Ekpiteta- of course, signed from Kingstonian last week- gave the hosts the lead in the forty ninth minute, and just after the hour Tyler Christian-Law made it two. Elliott Buchanan’s twenty third K’s goal of the campaign gave his side hope thirteen minutes from time, but it turned out to be forlorn hope, as the Scholars held on for victory.

Bar climb to fifteenth place with their three points- and have games in hand over all the sides around them- whilst the K’s remain six points behind the final playoff place, and have played two games more than the two sides directly above them.

Tilbury, with new interim boss Eljay Worrell directing proceedings for the first time, put perhaps the final dent in Bury Town’s promotion hopes at Chadfields last night- and they did it by scoring a last-gasp winner. Chris Millar gave the Dockers the lead after twenty five minutes, but with nineteen minutes to go the visitors drew level, Cemal Ramadan getting his fifteenth of the campaign, and Town must have thought they’d be good for at least a point- but no. Right at the death up stepped Tilbury’s number nine, Roman Campbell, to get his tenth of the season and give his side all of the points. That result sees the Dockers up to thirteenth, one place and four points behind Town, who are now fourteen points away from the top five place we expected them to claim with only eleven games remaining.

Pitching In Isthmian South Central

Bedfont Sports knew that a win last night would propel them into second place, but they were undone by a Chipstead side who have a decent recent record against the promotion contenders. The Chips previous two wins had come against Hanwell Town, who sit in fifth, and second place Chertsey Town- and last night their sixth place visitors went the same way. Sports have been our late goal kings this season, but last night the late goal went the other way, Andy Kabuikusomo reaching double figures for the season with the only goal of the game.

Binfield and Guernsey had to share the spoils. Liam Tack gave the Moles an early lead from the spot, but Domaille Keene equalised for the Green Lions just after the hour mark, and that was that. The Moles are eighth, the Green Lions sixteenth- but moving up the table with only three defeats in their last ten matches.
