Shot of the Season 21-22: Andy Schofield

By Ian Townsend

We asked our fabulous Pitching In Isthmian Photographers to choose their favourite photograph of the campaign, and tell us why it is important to them.

We’ve had a magnificent Pitching In Isthmian season, one which has been illustrated and enriched by the work of a number of brilliant photographers, who have recorded it for posterity. Andy is generally to be found pointing a camera at all things Hawk!

• When was the image taken (match, event, etc)?

Whitehawk v Haywards Heath Town, Pitching In Isthmian South East, Easter Monday

• Why is it important to you?

Whitehawk got special dispensation from the League to wear this Rainbow Rovers kit for this game. It was previously worn by our mixed gender team, the first time the FA had sanctioned a mixed match ever we think, and certainly since the 2nd World War. Haywards Heath have the ‘Black Lives Matter’ iconic script on the back of their shirts, which makes a similarly strong statement on equalities.

• Where can we find the rest of your work?

On Flickr- here- and at the club website- here.

• How and why did you begin taking photographs at football matches?

I began taking pictures a few seasons ago as we didn’t have anyone doing it away from home. I really love being close to the action.

• What are your hopes for the forthcoming season?
Last season Isthmian fans predicted that we’d be top six, not bottom six. Next season we’ll put that right.

If you regularly take photographs at our matches but haven't yet submitted yours, there's still time. Send it to Ian at townsendaround@gmail.com
