Shot of the Season 21-22: John Parish

By Ian Townsend

We asked our fabulous Pitching In Isthmian Photographers to choose their favourite photograph of the campaign, and tell us why it is important to them.

We’ve had a magnificent Pitching In Isthmian season, one which has been illustrated and enriched by the work of a number of brilliant photographers, who have recorded it for posterity. John Parish is from the parish of Essex.

• When was the image taken (match, event, etc)?

The picture was taken at Heybridge Swifts, as they lost three-one against Coggeshall Town on Saturday 16th April 2022.

• Why is it important to you?

I just thought that this image epitomises the effort put in by the players- effort they put in all season.

• Where can we find the rest of your work?

On Flickr- here.

• How and why did you begin taking photographs at football matches?

I have a passion for football and since retiring have taken to photographing and videoing games. I watch Coggeshall Town FC as well as Braintree Town FC and Chelmsford City FC in fact most Saturday afternoons I will find a game to watch and take photos!

• What are your hopes for the forthcoming season?

My hopes for next season is to see all my local teams at the top of the table including my grandson Jack Parish who plays for Coggeshall FC under 15s in the Eastern Junior Alliance League.

If you regularly take photographs at our matches but haven't yet submitted yours, there's still time. Send it to Ian at townsendaround@gmail.com
