Shot of the Season: Daniel Goody

By Ian Townsend

We’re asking our fabulous photographers to send in their favourite image of the Pitching In Isthmian season and explain why it’s important to them. Daniel remembers a day when he inadvertently took a beer shower!

When was the image taken (match, event, etc)?

This image was made at Canvey Island v Haringey Borough, in August 2023.

Why is it important to you?

Taken as part of an ongoing series in which I document the experience of non-league football from the fans point of view.

Canvey came from two goals down to win 3-2 and this shot was taken during the winning goal celebrations in the 85th minute. The fans in the shed went wild, with beers flying everywhere I got absolutely drenched. The place was rocking!

It might not be the prettiest picture or technically perfect but, it certainly evokes the memory of a wonderful moment early in the season.

Where can we find the rest of your work?

I share my work on Instagram; @thisisnonleague
