Six goal Sparks and five goal City take the Velocity headlines

By Ian Townsend

We had a big night in the Velocity Cup, South Park Reigate, Chichester City, Chipstead, Chertsey Town and Badshot Lea emerging triumphant

We start our Velocity Cup Second Round round up at the home of the big scoring Baggies, as Badshot Lea took on another side who were hot in front of goal on Saturday, Ascot United. Sadly for those watching on last night the goals had almost dried up, but the home fans won’t be too upset as the one goal that arrived gave their side victory. It arrived on sixty six minutes, and was scored by Adam new.

Chertsey Town welcomed Southall in another all-South Central clash. Both sides came into this one having lost their previous two matches, and that run was extended for the visitors after the Curfews triumphed. Gianluca Botti sent the hosts in at half time a goal to the good, and eighteen minutes from time they added another, Wayne Ridgley holding his nerve from the spot. Right at the end Luke Heneghan got a goal back for the visitors, but there wasn’t enough time for them to build on that.

Lancing hoped to quickly recover from their hammering at Ascot United on Saturday, but they got another one at the hands of local rivals Chichester City in an A27 derby. City were undoubted favourites, having not yet conceded a league goal and having defeated the Lancers three-nil as recently as August 26th, and once they got their noses in front just before the break there was no stopping them. Conrad Honore got the opener, and six minutes after the restart Ethan Pritchard made it two. Within four minutes Joe Moore had added a third, and with fifteen minutes left Pritchard ended any chance of a comeback by adding a fourth. Right at the end the Lancers got a goal back, Harry Heath with a consolation, but there was still time for Kieran Jones to add a fifth for the visitors.

Leatherhead and Chipstead met in an all-green battle at Fetcham Grove. The only side to previously defeat the Tanners this season had been Premier Division Horsham in a Cup replay, but the Chips can now be added to that list after Rylan John got the only goal of the game for the visitors just after the hour. The Chips won at Fetcham Grove in the league last season, too.

South Park Reigate welcomed Merstham to Whitehall Lane- and increased their winning streak to five in some style. The first half saw the sides trade goals, Sam King giving the Sparks the lead just after the half hour before Korrey Henry quickly levelled for the Moatsiders- but after the break the traffic was most definitely one way. James McElligott gave the hosts the lead on the hour, an own goal made it three-one, and then in the last twenty minutes the home support were treated to the Aiden Brown show, the striker (pictured, courtesy of the club) delivering a hat trick for goals number four, five and six as the visitors crash out. That’s seven matches in all competitions without a win for Merstham.
