Crawley Down Gatwick skipper Steve Robinson is in the running to become the new manager at the Ryman South’s Anvils.

Robinson, pictured, has taken the interim manager’s role following the resignation of former manager Simon Wormull on Monday.

Wormull resigned for ‘family and personal reasons’ and Anvils Chairman Brian Suckling says their captain, who followed Wormull to the club from Sussex rivals Lewes in the summer, will now be given a chance to stake his own claim to the hot-seat at The Haven Sportsfield.

Robinson takes charge for the first time on Saturday when the Anvils travel to Horsham. Despite revealing he’d already received interest from a number of potential candidates within 24 hours of Wormull’s exit, Suckling confirmed Robinson was in the frame.

Suckling said: "Robbo is interim manager and we will speak more as the week develops. The priority for the club is business as usual and this allows us that. Robbo will be the leader during the period of looking at applications and the interview process."

The Anvils are also hoping former manager Wormull will stay on at the club in another supporting role. He took over in the summer from John Maggs and led the Anvils to the top of the table by the end of August with five wins and a draw from their first six games.
