Soham are better than Chelsea!

We had an evening of Velocity Trophy action last night, and we're going to start our round up at Julius Martin Lane- because the evening's events there were rather extraordinary. Soham Town Rangers were hosting Ware, and the visiting Blues demonstrated why they still have an unbeaten league record by roaring into a four-nil half time lead, courtesy of a Liam Hope hat trick and a goal from Kardan Campbell. Game over? Certainly not.

It took until twelve minutes after the restart for the hosts to get back into the match, Tom Newman pulling a goal back. Ten minutes later the score was up to 3-4, Ryan Auger and Sam Mulready- it does feel rather like it's always Sam Mulready, that was his eleventh of the season- making the last twenty three minutes interesting. Three minutes from time it got more interesting still, as Auger- who had only entered the fray as a substitute- got his second of the night to draw his side level.

So we went on to a rather unlikely penalty shootout, and guess what? Yes, Rangers won that too, 6-5- picking up the bonus point.

After that everything else is likely to seem a little mundane, but we're going to tell you about it anyway! On Saturday David Knight, newly arrived from Bowers & Pitsea, scored a debut hat trick for Tilbury. Last night he led the Dockers line against Witham Town in Group Six, and got two more- Brian Moses and Ola Ogunwamide getting the other goals in a four-nil win over Witham Town. The other match in that group, between Great Wakering Rovers and Hullbridge Sports, was sadly abandoned after a serious injury to a home player. Get well soon.

In Group Five Westfield travelled to Marlow and left with three points courtesy of goals from Rhys Rabess and Nkomo Tinashe in a two-nil victory, whilst over in Group Nine we had a five goal thriller at Woodstock Park, Sittingbourne defeating South East Division leaders Cray Valley PM by the odd goal. Two of the Brickies goals came from Sid Sollis, who must like the Velocity Trophy as he's now got two goals in each of the three matches he's played in the competition, whilst the other one- the opener- came from Josh Oliver; whilst the Millers saw Ryan Flack and Emiliano Hysi find the net.

Group Seven saw two Kentish derbies. The first was an away win, as a Stephen Okoh double saw Hythe Town see off hosts Herne Bay, for whom Bradley Stevenson found the net. The second was a home win, a goal in each half giving Ramsgate victory over Whitstable Town; Liam Friend and Abdul-Qadir Anidugbe finding the back of the Oysterboys net.

Finally we head to Group Ten, where Chertsey Town celebrated their Manager of the Month and Performance of the Month Awards by defeating Tooting and Mitcham United by three goals to one. Leon Dadey and Frederick Hill gave the visiting Curfews a comfortable half time lead, and although Danny Bassett got one back for the Terrors with fourteen minutes remaining, Lubomir Guentchev made sure six minutes later. Bassett now has twelve goals for the season, whilst Guentchev has ten- but has now scored in four consecutive matches.

Whyteleafe and Chipstead renewed their rivalry at Church Road, and it was the Chips who took the lead, Sam Bell scoring after only eleven minutes. After the break Antonio Walker-Barth equalised for the home side, and the match went to penalties, Leafe picking up the extra point as they won 5-4.

We've more Velocity action tonight, with Hertford Town hosting Histon, Bracknell Town entertaining Chalfont St Peter and FC Romania inviting Hanwell Town to Cheshunt.

Elsewhere, in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round, Grays Athletic host Bedfont Sports again, courtesy of the FA. Sports won the original match 3-0 and the Parkside faithful will hope for a better outcome this time around.
