Sparks set a fire under Bognor

South Park Reigate are off to Hereford in the FA Trophy

A trip to Hereford was the prize awaiting Pitching In Isthmian Premier Bognor Regis Town and South Central opponents South Park Reigate in the FA Trophy Second Round last night, and the Sparks won that particular competition in some style.

The visitors travelled in rather inconsistent form, although they had been marginally better on the road than at home so far this season; whilst the hosts hadn’t played for eleven days due to weather related postponements, but had looked good in defeating Haringey Borough three-nil last time out, bouncing back to victory after three consecutive defeats.

The visitors were superb from the off, and went ahead on nineteen minutes, Jamarie Brissett opening the scoring. The home fans amongst the four hundred and fifty nine watching on must have been confident that their side would turn things around after the break, but it quickly got worse for the Rocks, Aiden Brown making it two with his ninth of the campaign. Just three minutes later the MKM Arena was silenced once more, as Sam King made it three. With only eighteen minutes left Dan Smith pulled a goal back for the hosts, but any hope that might have rekindled for the green army departed five minutes from time, substitute Ben Jordan making it four.

Many congratulations to the Sparks, who head to Herefordshire on December 9th. The magnanimous hosts had these words after the final whistle:

‘Amidst the disappointment of FA Trophy defeat tonight, we mustn’t forget to congratulate a spirited South Park side who thoroughly deserved their 4-1 win. You deserve huge credit for your desire and determination. We wish you all the very best in the third round at
Hereford.’

A note to our clubs- if you believe that any of the goals scored by your side was worthy of consideration for the 'Goal of the Month Award,' please feel free to upload it now using the link you were sent, don't feel that you have to wait until the end of the month!
