We were left with only one match in the Pitching In Isthmian South Central Division due to the weather, and at the end of the Heathrow runway Bedfont Sports were looking to close the gap on the top five as they hosted Tooting & Mitcham United. The Terrors have had a very up and down sort of season, but up was the appropriate adjective after two minutes as Nathan Daly put them ahead. They were two ahead after nineteen minutes, Mark Waters doubling the advantage, and when Dan Williams made it three just after half an hour the visiting fans could almost forget the rain such was their delight.
Sports then decided to fight back, and Ricky Wellard got one back four minutes before the break, and then another three minutes after it- and suddenly we really had a match. Williams second of the game should have calmed Tooting nerves just after the hour, but again Sports weren’t going to let the game escape, and Jordan Espirit pulled it back to three-four with eighteen minutes left.
Seven minutes from time the contest had an eighth goal…and it went to the hosts, Usman Lalustani making it a rather incredible four-four. It got more incredible still. With a minute to go Lewis Flatman completed an unlikely turnaround- apparently from the half way line- making it an improbable, incredible five-four to Sports.
The Bedfont faithful have witnessed their side grab points with late goals the whole season long- but surely nothing like this!
