Stat Attack: The Entertainers

By Ian Townsend

Who is scoring the most goals across the Pitching In Isthmian League? We take a look at the stats- two ways

Given we have no actual football to watch or write about, we thought we’d take a look at some statistics- and on this occasion we’re focusing on goalscorers. Who are our biggest entertainers?

When we look only at league goals, the most entertaining team are our league leaders, Worthing, who have managed twenty two so far this season, Mo Diallo top scoring with five. Cray Wanderers follow a goal behind, Joe Taylor their top scorer with seven, whilst Ware’s twenty have come from across their squad- the top scorer having only three. Horsham, in fourth, have striker Charlie Harris on seven with his strike partner Rob O’Toole on six. Here’s a table for you.

Top League Goalscorers (by club):

1. Worthing 22
2. Cray Wanderers 21
3. Ware 20
4. Horsham 19
5. VCD Athletic 18
5. Wingate & Finchley 18
7. Staines Town 17
7. Hornchurch 17
9. Marlow 16
9. East Grinstead Town 16
11. AFC Sudbury 15
11. Enfield Town 15
11. Kingstonian 15
11. Hanwell Town 15
11. Whyteleafe 15
11. Westfield 15
17. Sevenoaks Town 14
17. Hythe Town 14
17. Tilbury 14
17. Carshalton Athletic 14
17. Bracknell Town 14
17. Chertsey Town 14

When we add in FA Cup and FA Trophy goals, however, the view looks a little different. Cray Wanderers have scored a remarkable seventeen goals in cup competitions, Joe Taylor taking his tally up to eleven, whilst Whyteleafe double their tally, moving up to thirty. Omari Hibbert, Ryan Gondoh and Aaron Watson have shared twenty four of Leafe’s goal between them, with nine, eight and seven. Bishop’s Stortford’s cup successes have accounted for thirteen of their twenty six goals so far, whilst for Cray Valley PM got only six of their twenty five in the league, which shows just how good they’ve been away from it. The Jammers have nine in the North Division, but fifteen away from it, a statistic shared by South Central Barking, who have finally started to deliver league form that resembles their cup form.

Top goalscorers- all senior competitions:

1. Cray Wanderers 38
2. Whyteleafe 30
3. Worthing 29
4. Haringey Borough 27
4. Hornchurch 27
4. Carshalton Ath 27
7. Bishop’s Stortford 26
7. Hanwell Town 26
9. Enfield Town 25
9. Ware 25
9. Bracknell Town 25
9. Marlow 25
9. Cray Valley PM 25
14. Barking 24
14. Maldon & Tiptree 24
16. Bognor Regis Town 23
17. Staines Town 22
17. East Grinstead Tn 22
17. Kingstonian 22
20. Canvey Island 21
20. Cheshunt 21
20. AFC Sudbury 21

We were going to look at goals conceded, too, but decided there was enough misery in the world at present without us adding to it!

Hopefully Canvey Island will add to their twenty one when they entertain Boreham Wood in the FA Cup Second Round at the end of the month, as that will be our next live match (albeit still without spectators, sadly).
