Still seven for Stoke

By Ian Townsend

Nine wins in a row for our leaders, whilst Walton defeat the Woods as second played third. Marlow are up to fifth, whilst a late goal earns a Kingfishers point at Binfield

Basingstoke Town, with eight consecutive wins under their belts and a seven point lead at the top, made it nine in a row as they welcomed Chertsey Town to Winklebury. Any nerves amongst the whom faithful would have been soothed by half time, as George Reid and Paul Hodges had by then given the hosts a two goal lead, and the game was put to bed seven minutes from time when Bradley Wilson made it three. Manolis Gogonas got one back for the Curfews three minutes later, but that was no more than a consolation.

Stoke’s lead remains seven points, after second place Walton & Hersham narrowly triumphed at third place Northwood. The Swans were ahead as quickly as the fifth minute, Jordan Adeyemi with the opener, but Woods drew level eleven minutes after the restart through James Gurteen. The visitors made it five wins in a row- and three victories over the Woods this season- when Eddie Simon converted a penalty nineteen minutes from time.

Binfield, in fifth place at start of play, welcomed the challenge of Thatcham Town. The Moles were two goals to the good by the break, Conor Lynch taking his February tally to five in four matches- but immediately after the restart the Kingfishers reduced the arrears, Ramarni Medford-Smith with the equaliser. It looked as if the three points would go to the Moles, but right at the end the visitors got a penalty, and Cameron Rohart-Brown duly despatched it- one defeat in eleven for the Kingfishers, who are up to tenth.

Marlow climbed back into the top five after defeating Ashford Town. They had to come from two goals down to do it, Lindell Stewart and Nathaniel Mensah giving the Tangerines a seemingly comfortable half time lead- but it turned out not to be comfortable at all! Joshua Boorn got one back almost immediately, and the hosts were level on fifty three minutes through Naheer-Omar Nawaf. Three minutes later it was three-two, Ben Mulley with the third, and right at the end Aaron McLeish-White ended any Tangerine hopes by adding a fourth.

South Park v Chipstead was abandoned due to fog.

Finally, Uxbridge, hosted Westfield. Neither side was in particularly good form, each of them winning only two of their last ten matches- and the win tally didn’t increase as both sides had to be happy with a point. Anthony Mendy took only three minutes to open the scoring for the hosts, but Troy Walters, on as a substitute, levelled just after the hour to earn the Woking side a point.
