Stopper is on the road to recovery

But the popular former Oxford United and Portsmouth player, 35, is likely to miss the rest of the season despite undergoing a successful operation on the broken tibia and fibula bones in his right leg.

The Green Lions say their social media feeds have been inundated with messages of support from Guernsey and people around the Ryman League for their stopper who is pictured sitting up in hospital and giving the thumbs up after his right leg was realigned on Monday.

Guernsey's communications manager and club director Nic Legg helped collate all the messages and he told www.guernseyfc.com: "The amount for support for Tardy, from people in the local community to those sending words of support from around the Ryman League and beyond, shows what a popular person he is and what high regard he holds in the Non-League community."

He added: "He is a fantastic ambassador for our club as well as one of our most important players. We are devastated for him as such bad luck couldn't have happened to a nicer person but his character is that of someone who will work extremely hard to make sure he pulls on a Guernsey shirt again."

In a brief message to fans, Tardif told well-wishers: "I'd like to thank everyone for their messages, it's given me real strength for the challenge ahead."

His wife Laura added: "We have been totally overwhelmed and humbled by the vast amount of well wishes and support received for Chris. This is where the true spirit of GFC comes through and we are reminded what an amazing club and community this is. The messages have given Chris a massive lift and motivation for his long recovery. We really appreciate every one."
