Supporters choice: Team of the Year- North Division no.2

Richard Buckby goes into detail as he picks his North Division Select XI. Three of his own local heroes make the grade.

Goalkeeper

Chris Haigh – Heybridge Swifts

Instrumental since he joined Heybridge and his heroics in the play-off final alone means he deserves his place.

Defenders

Billy Roast – Maldon and Tiptree

Forever reliable and arguably should be playing a lot higher than the Bostik North. Has the potential to go far in the come, with this calm approach and superb ball playing skills. Was key to Maldon’s run to the play off final.

Tyler Corlett - Witham / Coggeshall Town

A man mountain. Stood out in what was a poor Witham team before joining Coggeshall, taking over the captain’s arm band and being the linchpin that ensured Coggeshall reached the play-off semi-final.

Martyn Stokes – Bowers and Pitsea

Mr Reliable in the heart of the champions defence. Was a big reason Bowers recorded so many clean sheets and it would be a travesty for him not to be in this team.

Danny Briggs – Maldon and Tiptree

A headache for both attackers and defenders, his goals and assists this year were a huge factor in why Maldon achieved so much. He gets up and down the pitch like many can’t and is a real threat. Would be amazed if he doesn’t move to a Conference South club this summer.

Midfielders

Nnamdi Nwachuku – Coggeshall Town

Missed a fair chunk of the season due to injury, however is up there with the highest scores in the division. Dynamic and skilful, Nnamdi is a handful for any defence on his day and left many defenders with nightmares throughout the season.

Conor Hubble - Coggeshall Town

A goal scoring midfielder, who can play in a number of positions - in a holding role or as an attacking midfielder. He could run a goal of the season competition on his own and is a dream to play with for many midfielders, due to his ability to find a pass and run beyond his opponents.

Conor Witherspoon – Aveley

Has been in this division for a while and is a born winner, after his success with Brightlingsea. He does the work the others don’t want to do, running the hard yards and sticking his foot in where it hurts. Always prepared to put his body on the line for the cause. A real, unsung hero and leader for Aveley this season.

Quentin Monville – Bowers and Pitsea

Underrated by many, but Monville must have contributed the most assists this season by any midfielder? He was electric when Bowers beat Coggeshall at the start of 2019 and his pace and trickery is unmanageable for most. Destined for big things and I’m sure Bowers will want to hold on to him...

Forwards

David Knight – Bowers and Pitsea

Strikers are paid to score goals and Knight does that in abundance as he collects the golden boot - not for the first time. His movement off the ball and his willingness to run non stop for 90 minutes is admirable. Look forward to seeing how he fairs in the Bostik Prem and fingers crossed he continues to terrorise defenders.

Sam Mulready – Soham Town Rangers

This selection may well surprise most, but his twenty one goals in a side battling relegation is a fantastic achievement. He has scored goals on a consistent basis throughout the season and without him, Soham would have probably been relegated. I’m sure he will be snapped up by a side in a higher division next summer and he deserves it.
