Tags go top- and a Robins comeback rocks Rocks

By Ian Townsend

FIFTEEN consecutive wins for Hashtag United- and Carshalton end Bognor’s winning streak

The last time we had new leaders at the top of Pitching In Isthmian North was on November 12th, when AFC Sudbury’s victory over Grays Athletic took them to the summit. At that point Hashtag United were in fifth place, seven points behind, but last night they hit the summit for the first time this season, coming from behind against Maldon & Tiptree at the Len Salmon to deliver an incredible fifteenth successive victory- a run which started, rather ironically, on the day the Yellows went top!

The Tags fell behind after just three minutes. A free kick found former Tags striker George Smith in space, and he made no mistake, giving his side the perfect start. Could the hosts run be coming to an end? The answer, of course, was no- but they had to work incredibly hard for the points. The equaliser came twenty minutes from time, an own goal doing the damage- and the Tags winner arrived eight minutes later, but it came with its own dose of controversy. The Jammers believed that Smith had been fouled by Greg Halford on half way, but the referee thought otherwise, the hosts broke away, and a cross from Matt Wooldridge ensured it was Teniola time once more, substitute Alex (pictured) popping up to force home his twelfth goal of the season.

The Tags go two points clear- although the Yellows have the chance to respond this evening as they play their game in hand. Victory may not be easy, however, as Sudbury travel to face fourth place Felixstowe and Walton United, who have lost only one home match this season. Image from Nashy Photo- more here.

In the Pitching In Isthmian Premier Bognor Regis Town travelled to Carshalton Athletic on the back of winning four consecutive league matches- and, given their hosts were four without a win, they visitors must have been confident when a long range beauty from Joe Rabbetts put them ahead just after the break. The Robins, however, weren’t going to let this one get away from them, and they levelled with twenty minutes remaining, Crossley Lema finding Matthew Vigor who made no mistake. Lema then went from assisting a goal to scoring one, forcing the ball home from a Tom Beere free kick with thirteen minutes left on the clock. That was that- and the Robins close to within two points of a play off place.
