Tangerine dream!

By Ian Townsend

Basingstoke go top, Marlow retain their perfect record, but Ashford Town record our performance of the day with five at Staines.

A third win in three games saw Basingstoke Town take over at the top of the Pitching In Isthmian South Central Division yesterday. They travelled to Thatcham Town, and were made to hang on a little to win by the odd goal in five.

Bradley Wilson took only twelve minutes to give the visitors the lead, and although Lamin Ceesay drew the Kingfishers level by half time Basingstoke looked out of danger, Lloyd Snell restoring their lead and Shaun Dallimore increasing it. But a Harry Harvey penalty with twenty five minutes left made things rather uncomfortable- however the hosts couldn’t claw back the deficit.

Bracknell Town are in second place, two points behind, after coming from behind to win their local derby at Binfield. Josh Helmore put the Moles ahead after only three minutes, before the familiar duo of Joseph Grant and Seb Bowerman got to work for the Robins, a goal each putting the visitors ahead by the break. Another from Grant just before the hour sealed victory.

Uxbridge and Bedfont Sports, first and second at start of play, slipped to third and fourth after a draw at the end of the Heathrow runway- but it looked like an away win for much of the match, and would have ended that way had Sports never-say-die attitude not led to yet another late goal. Max Webb got this one, cancelling out Tony Mendy’s fourth in four matches for the visitors.

Another fine victory for Chipstead saw them climb to fifth. Two-one down to South Park at the break, the visitors managed three without reply in the second half. Kieran Lavery gave Chipstead the lead after twenty one minutes, but the advantage lasted for only four more before Matthew Faithorn drew the hosts level, and five minutes before the break Ibrahim Jalloh put them ahead. The second half was one way traffic, however, Tom Collins drawing the Chips level before, in the last ten minutes, Sam Bell and another from Collins- giving him six for the weekend- sealed victory.

Marlow are the second of two sides to maintain a one hundred percent record, although yesterday was only their second match. A two-nil win at Chalfont St Peter saw them sixth, Nnamdi Nwachuku- from the spot- and Adam Richards doing the damage.

Chertsey Town and Westfield are seventh and eighth respectively, after a one-one draw at Woking Park. Afolabi Soyemi-Ololade put the hosts ahead early on, but Magnus Abisogun earned a point for the Curfews thirteen minutes from time.

Hanwell Town, in tenth, got back to winning ways with victory over Northwood- although the Geordies had to come from behind for three points. Ismael Ehui’s second of the campaign gave the Woods a first half lead, but after the break two goals in two minutes from Jack Hutchinson and Calum Duffy turned the game on its head.

We’ve left the best until last. Ashford Town picked up their first League win of the campaign in some style, travelling to Staines Town and walloping their local rivals five-nil. George Spiers put the Tangerines ahead after only four minutes, and Matt Bunyan doubled the advantage just before the break. In the second half Perry Coles extended the lead with his third of the season before Jack French and an own goal- both in the last two minutes- made the margin of victory even more impressive.
