Cheshunt teenager Tommy Fletcher has earned a dream move from the Ryman League to League 2 Wycombe Wanderers.

The 18-year-old defender spent five years with the Ryman North's Ambers and signed a one-year deal on Tuesday with the option of a second year at Adams Parks after impressing in the heart of the Choirboys' defence during one half of Saturday's 1-0 victory at Conference South Havant & Waterlooville.

Fletcher was expected to play again in Wycombe's friendly at Eastleigh on Tuesday night and manager Gareth Ainsworth told the Maidenhead Advertiser that he believes the teenager has great potential after beating a number of other Football League clubs to his signature.

Ainsworth said: "He’s impressed in training and in the game against Havant and did more than enough to make us want to sign him. He’s got the raw materials and more.

"With hard work and coaching he can go on to be a very good player. Other clubs were interested in him, and we’re pleased to have secured his signature.”

After completing his move, a delighted Fletcher said: "It’s my dream. I’ve always wanted to be a professional player and I’m just glad that I’ve signed a contract today and got here.

"I’m over the moon to be at Wycombe. It’s such a big club and I’ve never experienced anything like it. I’ve been in Non-League football and this is my first time at a pro club."
