The Pitching In Isthmian Foodie Awards

By Ian Townsend

We asked you about your favourite football food. Who gets a coveted Isthmian Star?

We asked you earlier this week to tell us about your favourite Isthmian food, and goodness it provoked a debate. One supporter (David Friend from Aveley) even provided a burger top twenty, which we thought was dedication to meat products over and above the call of duty.

So, here’s a shout out for those who were favourably mentioned, before we give you our top five.

The food at Tilbury certainly got your juices flowing, and given the size of it- see image- we’re not surprised. Eat Street do the catering for the Dockers, and they got lots of mentions for the quality of their food, the size of the portions and the plethora of condiments.

Horsham also got an honourable mention, particularly their ‘blue cheese burgers,’ whilst Potters Bar Town ‘do sausages right’- and the pictorial evidence suggests they most certainly do. The Scholars ‘brioche burger’ was also given a shout out.

Flava Dave at East Thurrock United was also highly regarded, and we had a couple of shouts for the quality of the hospitality at Felixstowe and Walton United, which wasn’t want we asked but was still lovely to hear. You were impressed with cheesy chips at Cheshunt, and loved the food at Folkestone Invicta (almost all over on Instagram, which perhaps says something about Invicta’s demographic), whilst Worthing were highly praised but aren’t going to win this competition!

The food at Stowmarket Town was also deemed worthy of regular praise, Bury Town were also highly recommended, and in the Pitching In South East Burgess Hill Town came out on top, with Faversham Town just behind.

Our Pitching In Isthmian Foodie Award Winners, then, look like this:

Winners: Tilbury (image courtesy of Vanders TV)
Runners Up: Potters Bar Town
Third: Folkestone Invicta
Fourth: East Thurrock United
Fifth: Burgess Hill Town/Horsham

Particular congratulations to the Dockers, the Scholars, Invicta and the Rocks, who were particularly high scoring- but it's great to know that so many of our fans love to eat at football, and more importantly love what they eat at football.
