The Robins are eight points clear- can they extend that lead, or will Rovers do the rest a favour?

By Ian Townsend

We've some fabulous entertainment in prospect in the Pitching In Isthmian South Central. Here's our preview.

With only one defeat all season and eight consecutive wins, Bracknell Town started the season as our title favourites and for once it looks as if our pundits were right. Eight points clear, they’ll need to combat against complacency as they travel to Sutton Common Rovers. Their hosts, in fifteenth place, have only drawn one match all season so are likely to either win or lose- most people will expect the latter, but they’ve been very good in spells and will hope to spring a surprise.

Second place Basingstoke Town have a tough trip to face Hanwell Town. The Geordies are in seventh, but have lost only one of their last nine and will form tough opposition, given they are six points behind their opponents with two games in hand.

Uxbridge have lost only one game this season, and yet find themselves ten points behind Bracknell with two games in hand courtesy of having drawn two more than the Robins. They are on the road to Westfield, their hosts sitting in mid table and unbeaten in six matches- although they did draw a rather incredible five of them, in a row!

Chertsey Town are another club with only one defeat. They travel to South Park looking to recover from that reverse, which came to Northwood last weekend. The Sparks also lost last weekend, but they were playing the leaders and had gone eight matches undefeated before that, so might hope that was just a minor blip. Ninth hosts fifth at Whitehall Lane.

Bedfont Sports are having a Christmas jumper day at the end of the runway, and it’s a Heathrow derby as Ashford Town come to call. Sports have lost their last two, and that blip has coincided with a Tangerine improvement, Town winning their last two and unbeaten in three. Here’s hoping that the brightest thing about the day won’t be the glitter on that knitwear!

Binfield have slipped to eighth after a defeat and two draws, but have still only lost two in ten. They face a Northwood side who will be cock-a-hoop after that win at Chertsey; their second win in three matches.

Twelfth hosts fourteenth as Thatcham Town welcome Tooting & Mitcham United. The visiting Terrors haven’t spread much terror this season, and have three wins and seven defeats from their last ten- but they did win last weekend so are hopefully on the up; whilst the Kingfishers are five games unbeaten, although that does include four draws- do they think they’re Westfield in disguise?!

Finally, our bottom placed side Chalfont St Peter host Chipstead. Both sides have only one win from their last ten, but the Chips record includes four draws and as such five defeats, whilst the Saints have lost eight of that number. That said, the hosts have only gone four games without a win, but it’s seven for the visitors.
