Proceeds of trophy match donated to family of tragic former player

Following last week's Stan Veness Trophy match between Tilbury and Grays Athletic, Tilbury FC confirmed today that a cheque for £3,000 -the proceeds from the game- will be presented to the family of Kevin Malthouse later this week.

The club stated that they would like to thank the players, officials and supporters of both Tilbury FC and Grays Athletic for their support, as well as all of Kevin's friends and family who were in attendance. They added that the Tilbury FC squad also paid to play on the night, increasing the amount raised, and there were a number of very generous donations.

A crowd of 560 attended the game, which was preceded by an impeccably observed minute of silence.

A further event in support of Kevin's family will take place this coming Saturday, at the World's End pub in Fort Road, Tilbury. A variety of activities will be on offer, including face painting and a bouncy castle for the kids, and raffle prizes such as a limousine trip and even a holiday to Marbella. Doors will be open on 5th August between 1pm and 6pm.

Kevin’s best friend, Wayne Morgan, from Tilbury, described Kevin as “like a brother” to him. Wayne has pioneered the fundraising for Kevin’s family and has since had “overwhelming support” from the public. Wayne is also working with his club Scruttons FC, who Kevin had played for, in organising the ‘family fun day’ along with his friend Martin Llewellyn, a former Tilbury striker.

Mr Morgan is optimistic that there will be a huge turnout on the day and is hoping to raise over £5,000.

Tilbury FC hope as many people as possible can attend during the day to support Kevin's family.
