Steve Tilson departs Heybridge Swifts

Heybridge Swifts have announced- via social media- the departure of manager Steve Tilson- and assistant manager Ashley Millar.

Steve joined the club as Assistant to Julian Dicks in the summer of 2021, eventually taking the top job when Dicks departed a few months later. He steered the side to the Play Off Final in 2022-23, eventually losing on penalties to AFC Sudbury, and they finished the 23-24 campaign in seventh place.

He became a Southend legend as a player, making almost to hundred and fifty appearances as part of a side which experienced two promotions. He left the Shrimpers to play for Canvey Island, with almost one hundred and fifty appearances there, before leaving to work full time in coaching roles at Roots Hall. These eventually led to him being appointed manager, and he led the club to two promotions and was in charge for seven years.

He also managed Lincoln City and, of course, had a spell in charge of Canvey Island. Whilst a player, and prior to his Southend days, he turned out for Witham Town and Basildon United.
