Trawler Boys have six appeal

By Ian Townsend

Six wins from six for Lowestoft, Grays up to second, and wins for Bury, Stow, Blues and Rovers

Leaders Lowestoft Town were smarting from their hammering at Wroxham in the FA Trophy last weekend, and Witham Town’s previous fine start to the season came to an end as the Trawler Boys made it six wins from six in the League with a first half goal blitz. Kyle Haylock got them underway on four minutes, Jake Reed doubled their tally on thirteen, and when Adam Hipperson got a third midway through the half it looked as if a hammering could be on the cards, but at that point Witham awoke and kept the score semi-respectable.

We’d an Essex derby as Tilbury welcomed Grays Athletic, and the visitors made it six wins from their last seven matches in all competitions and moved up to second place. Both goals came in the first half, and it was Athletic’s usual deadly duo of Sam Bantick and Anointed Chukwu who got them.

Wroxham, who scored five against leaders Lowestoft last weekend, welcomed Felixstowe & Walton United. The Seasiders have been in fabulous form in the league and mad the trip with an unbeaten record, whilst the Yachtsmen were still waiting for a first league win- and both of those statements remain true, but don’t tell the story of the match. The visitors went ahead on eighteen minutes through Zak Brown, and although Matt Hayden levelled from the spot just after the break, Callum Harrison quickly restored the Seasiders lead. Robbie Linford’s red card saw the Yachtsmen go down to ten men and seem down and out, but the opposite proved true, Brad Spooner grabbing a late equaliser.

Bury Town were on the road to Lowestoft, where they faced Gorleston. The ‘hosts’ are still looking for their first point of the campaign, as a goal in each half from Cemal Ramadan- both from the spot- sent Town up to sixth.

New Salamis welcomed Heybridge Swifts. Both were level on points as we kicked off, and that remains the case, after a two-two draw. The hosts were two up after just fifteen minutes, Derek Asamoah and Taufee Skandari with the goals, but after the break Swifts drew level, substitute Kieran Jones and Sam Carter with their goals. Swifts remain unbeaten but fall to eighth, with their hosts a place further back.

Stowmarket Town are six unbeaten across all competitions and made it seven points from nine against Basildon United with a two-nil victory. Both goals came rather late, Dylan Logan on seventy one minutes, Tevan Allen three minutes later. Stow are up to seventh.
Coggeshall Town played host to Brentwood Town, and the Seed Growers are still searching for their first league win of the campaign after the Blues scored the only goal of the game. George Craddock got it, four minutes before the break, and Town are up to eleventh.

East Thurrock United welcomed Hullbridge Sports and had Harry Hope to thank as they rescued a point late on. Darius Ghinea gave the visitors the lead after half an hour, but six minutes from time Hope got the equaliser. That’s Harry’s fifth of the season, and he has scored in his last three matches.

Maldon & Tiptree's miserable season continued as they welcomed Great Wakering Rovers and were too welcoming by half, conceding three first half goals. Eusebio Da Silva, Perry Dunn and Alex Hernandez got the goals, Rovers up to fourteenth, the Jammers rock bottom without a point.
