Trawler Boys stay four clear- and score six!

By Ian Townsend

Lowestoft return to action in style, Felixstowe score four, whilst Brightlingsea go fourth and Bowers fifth

Leaders Lowestoft Town were back in action for the first time in almost three weeks, and it was like they’d never been away. Harvey Sayer put them ahead from the spot against New Salamis on seventeen minutes, and only a minute later it was two, Dave Hinton doubling the advantage. Before the break the advantage was doubled once more, as the Trawler Boys went from two to four. A minute before the break Jake Reed got his eighteenth of the season, and there was still time for an Adam Hipperson spot kick to make it four before everyone trooped off to stand in front of a radiator.

Twenty four minutes went by without any addition to the scoreline, and then the hosts scored two in a minute. New signing Josh Hazell made it five-nil, Harvey Sayer (headline image- Shirley Whitlow) emerged from the gloom to make it six, and right at the end the visitors got a goal back, Wranyel Hercules getting his side on the scoresheet with a free kick from distance. It didn’t help them much, the Trawler Boys four points clear at the top.

Felixstowe & Walton United couldn’t afford to lose any more ground on Lowestoft Town, and the Seasiders went ahead against Gorleston on twenty three minutes, Sam Ford with the opener (pictured- Stefan Peck). The lead was doubled within seven minutes of the second half, Josh Hitter heading home to make it two-nil, and the match was as good as won with sixteen minutes to go, Charlie Warren running through to make it three-nil. There was certainly no way back for the Greens when Callum Harrison made it four, eight minutes from time.

Brightlingsea Regent and Brentwood Town both have promotion aspirations, and we suspected that their meeting would be close. It took until twenty two minutes from time for the opening goal to arrive, and it went to Regent, Bradley Russell opening the scoring, and Town’s hopes of an equaliser perhaps departed in the last minute, a red card for Shad Ngandu leaving them with ten men. It was game over soon afterwards, Kojo Apenteng making it two-nil from the free kick, and the final whistle quickly followed. Regent go fourth.

Walthamstow was the destination for fifth place Bowers & Pitsea. Striker Matt Price got his first Bowers goal in victory over Basildon United last time out, and he got another in East London, putting his side ahead on twenty four minutes. Price added a second just before the break, but right at the end the hosts got a goal back, Jordon Watson with it (although it has been reported elsewhere as an own goal). The visitors ended the match with ten men, Eman Okunja seeing red- and they also ended it with no points, Bowers holding on for victory and fifth place.

Enfield are scheduled to take on Bury Town today- look out for the results of a 10.30 AM pitch inspection, although it seems to have warmed up a bit so we might be ok!

A note to our clubs- if you believe that any of the goals scored by your side was worthy of consideration for the 'Goal of the Month Award,' please feel free to upload it now using the link you were sent, don't feel that you have to wait until the end of the month!
