Tuesday night is for the birds

We’ve Rooks v Gulls as the Pitching In Isthmian Premier play off battle continues, whilst just north of the M25 the Scholars welcome the Rocks

Our big match this evening comes from the Dripping Pan, which, having hosted Manchester United, an FA Cup Quarter Final, a record crowd and the BBC on Sunday is getting quite used to big matches, thank you very much. Lewes have closed to within three points of the top five, and although they would need an unfeasible large victory to break into it this evening will be confident after a run of one defeat in ten matches, and having won their last three. Visitors Canvey Island are also having a fine season- from North Division Play Off Winners to genuine Premier promotion candidates in one season is some going, and absolutely not a fluke. The Gulls, like their hosts, have only one defeat from ten, and have been in fine form, five points clear of the Rooks in fourth place. The two sides will meet again on the final day of the season- and who knows, perhaps they may have a third meeting a few days later?

We'll have a report from this one shortly after the final whistle.

Less crucially we have thirteenth v fourteenth. Neither Potters Bar Town or Bognor Regis Town are going to trouble the top five, and neither side are likely to be worried by the goings on at the other end of the table, either, but they would both dearly like more points. The Scholars season went from scintillating to sorrowful- it isn’t that long since they were top of the table- but they did get back to winning ways at the weekend against Kingstonian. The visitors fell narrowly against Canvey at the weekend, and given their last five matches have a L-W-L-W-L pattern will be looking to continue that with a W. The Scholars defeated the Rocks two-one back in August, and both sides have taken two victories from their last seven meetings.
