Tuesday's Ryman North action review

By David Watters

The top game in Ryman North on Tuesday night saw second-placed Thurrock win 2-1 at Hayes Lane against fourth-placed Cray Wanderers, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Although AFC Sudbury look like shoe-ins for the title, Thurrock maintained the pressure by breaking the deadlock just shy of the hour-mark through Harry Agombar and then adding a second from Charlie Cole 11 minutes later, with James Duckworth replying three minutes from time.

The two other Tuesday matches involved teams at the opposite end of the table and saw Brightlingsea Regent moved to within three points of the top five after drawing 2-2 at Haringey Borough, who are probably just about safe now.

Nana Asamoah have Boro the lead on the half-hour mark. But Regent turned that round with goals from Kieron Baker after 38 minutes and then Russell Malton after 77 minutes. Jorge Sambu equalised 10 minutes from time.

A first goal for the club from Jack Smith in the 85th minute secured a point for fifth-bottom Heybridge Swifts in a lively encounter with the team immediately above them, Romford, at Scraley Road.

Swifts went behind after just 30 seconds through Nick Reynolds. A penalty conceded just before half-time by George Doyle saw former Swift Ryan Boswell see his shot saved by keeper Danny Sambridge.

Swifts enjoyed the ascendancy after the break and another ex-Swift Adeyinka Cole was sent-off for a poor challenge with 15 minutes left. Unfortunately, their one-man advantage lasted just four minutes when George Doyle received a second yellow. And with 5 minutes remaining Jack Smith poked the ball home from close range to earn Swifts a point.
