Tuesday's Ryman Premier action review

Grays Athletic maintained their unbeaten run in the Ryman League's Premier Division after a 3-0 win at the Prospects Stadium against Canvey Island on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Joao Carlos gave the visiting Blues a 35th minute lead that James Stevens eventually doubled from the penalty spot after 65 minutes. Ten minutes later, top scorer Dumebi Dumaka added a third to make sure the points went to Essex.

Tonbridge Angels are in second spot after edging promoted Brentwood Town 1-0 at the Arena, courtesy of an 18th minute goal from defender Laurence Ball.

Wingate & Finchley maintained their good start to the season after a comprehensive 6-0 battering of another promoted side, Needham Market, who have still yet to win as a Premier Division outfit.

Rob Laney gave the hosts an early ninth minute lead that Billy Healey added to 10 minutes later. Brad Hewitt made it 3-0 just three minutes later and the game was all-but over inside 25 minutes with a second for Laney.

On the hour-mark Laney completed his hat-trick, with Marc Weatherstone adding the icing on the cake with a sixth with 12 minutes remaining.

Dulwich Hamlet are fifth after they edged out Leatherhead by the only goal of the game at Champion Hill, a crowd of 625 seeing Rhys Murrell-Williamson net what proved to be the winning goal on the half-hour mark.

VCD Athletic remain firmly bottom and yet to win after Kingstonian inflicted a 3-0 defeat on them at home.

It took the K`s until the 64th minute to make the breakthrough with a goal from substitute Ricky Sappleton, who swiftly added a second just two minutes later. Another sub, Arron Hopkinson, made it game over with a third six minutes from time.

Hendon recovered from four successive defeats to beat East Thurrock United 4-2 at Rookery Hill in a game where both sides finished with ten-men.

Ryan Scott gave the Rocks an early fifth minute lead, and it wasn`t until two minutes into the second period that the Greens were able to get back on level terms through Aaron Morgan. But just five minutes later Lewis Smith restored the home side`s lead from the penalty spot.

Sam Murphy then did likewise for the visitors on 68 minutes and six minutes later East Thurrock`s Rickie Hayles became the first to be sent-off. Leon Smith came off the bench to give Hendon an 86th minute lead and, despite having Morgan dismissed in the 89th minute, the visitors added a fourth through another sub, Andre Da Costa.

Harrow Borough have lost only once this season to date after recording a 1-0 win at Earlsmead against promoted Burgess Hill Town, the only goal coming as early as the seventh minute from Lewis Driver.

Another of the division`s new boys, Merstham, lost for the fifth time in their nine matches to date, going down at the Moatside Stadium to slow-starting but fancied Billericay Town.

Shane Stamp gave the Essex side the lead on the half-hour mark. And the points were secured for Craig Edwards` side with 16 minutes to go through Romainian Valentin Alexandru Cojocar.
