Urchins and Daggers take the spoils in two local derbies

By Ian Townsend

A short round up from last night- and an added video!

We had a couple of friendly matches last night, as Barking and Grays Athletic invited Dagenham and Redbridge and Hornchurch to visit. On both occasions the nights ended with an away victory.

Barking hosted 'The Borough Cup.' and the Daggers got to take it home after a four-one victory, despite being given a scare early on when Charlie MacDonald did Charlie MacDonald things, scoring to put the hosts ahead. Sadly that only spurred on Dagenham to bigger and better things, and they scored three before the break and another after it to seal victory.

You can read a match report here, and look at some photographs courtesy of Terry Gilbert here. One of Terry's photos headlines this article, and it shows the Daggers with the cup. Oh, and Happy Birthday to Blues forward Charlie Heatley- guess how old he is?! Image borrowed from Clare Heatley.

George Purcell started for Barking, but his former club- and FA Trophy winners- Hornchurch were along the road at Parkside, continuing their fabulous pre-season form. Lewwis Spence was the star of the show, ending the night with one more goal than he has w's, with Rickie Hayles getting the other as the Urchins got four. Athletic's consolation came from Paxman.
