Urchins and Robins beat the weather and make home advantage count

By Ian Townsend

The Pitching In Isthmian Premier Division was mostly either blown away or washed out, and we ended up with only two matches, but they were very much worth watching and delivered eight goals. It’s our- brief- round up.

Hornchurch, who had taken twenty six points from their previous thirty and were undefeated since November 23rd, were the only Premier side with a grass pitch to see their match go ahead. They hosted bottom side East Thurrock United in an Essex derby, and were two goals to the good by half time, Tom Wraigth’s twenty first minute penalty and a goal just before the break from Liam Nash seeing them comfortably ahead. That was Wraith’s eighth in twelve matches- rather unexpected for a player wearing number six on his back- whilst Nash’s effort was his thirteenth, and he had his fourteenth only six minutes after the break, a third goal surely ensuring three points. The next goal was also a third- a third for Nash, who claimed the match ball on sixty two minutes, and seven minutes from time Ola Ugunwamide made it five-nil, as the hapless Rocks were well and truly rocked. They were punch drunk by the end, Sam Higgins making it six and seeing the Urchins comfortably into the top five.

Here's Urchins boss Mark Stimson's view of the game:

And words from Liam Nash and Tobi Joseph.

Carshalton Athletic have had an up and down campaign and of late have been more down than up, with only one win in six. The Robins welcomed Wingate & Finchley, wallopers of title-chasing Enfield Town in midweek, and gave the Blues the blues in the first half, Luke Read opening the scoring after a quarter of an hour and Daniel Bassett doubling the advantage seven minutes before the break, his sixteenth of the campaign.

That was that, and the Robins are ninth, eight points off the top five.
