VCD sign former Nuts and Bolts midfielder- and he ends up in goal!

Mendy heroics can't quite save Vickers from defeat

VCD Athletic announced the signing of former Ashford United midfielder Laurent Mendy just before kick off against Guernsey on Saturday- and he started in the number nine shirt, but ended up in goal! Mendy, who was making his first appearance for the club, volunteered to don the gloves after Vickers keeper Nick Blue was sent off after seventeen minutes, and then kept the Channel Islanders at bay until eleven minutes from time, when Robbie Legg scored the only goal of the game. The home side even had the chance to take a point when they earned a penalty a few minutes later, but sadly for the home faithful the usually-reliable Charlie MacDonald fired his spot kick over the bar.

Mendy had made only two appearances for the Nuts and Bolts this season, adding to the nine he made last season. He has more recently been turning out in National League South for Dartford.

He also spent time in the previous campaign with Whyteleafe and Greenwich Borough, after leaving Thamesmead Town, for whom he made thirty one appearances and scored twelve goals in 2017-18 after joining them the previous season.
