Wednesday Night Football

By Ian Townsend

We’ve matches in Pitching In Isthmian Premier, South East and South Central tonight- as Kingstonian, Southall and Ramsgate take on the role of hosts. Here’s our preview.

Pitching In Isthmian Premier sees Kingstonian and Enfield Town both look to bounce back from defeats at the weekend. The K’s, who start the evening in the bottom four, saw a two match winning run end in a three-two defeat at Dulwich Hamlet; whilst the Towners were departing the FA Cup one step from the promised land of the FA Cup First Round, and must have looked on enviously as their conquerors, Cray Valley PM, were presented with a trip to Charlton Athletic as their prize.

The Towners haven’t played a league match since their defeat to Carshalton Athletic on September 23rd, and over the last two weekends have departed both Cup and Trophy- but victory tonight will send them up to fourth place, and they have one, two or even three matches in hand over the sides ahead of them. A win for the K’s could send them as high as sixteenth.

The K’s took four points from the clashes between the sides last season.

Pitching In Isthmian South Central gives Southall the chance to climb to second place, but they will have to defeat Thatcham Town to do so. The All have been in fine form of late, five matches undefeated- a run which includes four wins and twenty goals scored. The visiting Kingfishers have won only one of their last six, and suffered late defeat as they hosted Corinthian-Casuals at the weekend. An away win would see them climb to twelfth.

The Kingfishers got the best of The All last season, taking four points from their encounters.

Ramsgate start the day in fourteenth place in Pitching In Isthmian South East, but that is mainly because they’ve played only three league matches all season, so involved have they been in Cup competitions. That gives the Rams as many as five matches in hand over the sides above them- although they’d have to win each of those five matches to overhaul current leaders Three Bridges as they are fourteen points behind. The first of those games in hand sees them welcome Erith & Belvedere this evening, and after their triumph in the FA Cup at AFC Totton on Saturday they’ll be determined to avoid a Cup hangover.

The Deres find themselves one point better off than their hosts, although they’ve played four additional matches to earn that point. A run of one win in their last ten matches across five competitions has seen them in uncertain form, but there seems more than enough talent in their squad to see them higher up the table. They may have to work incredibly hard if they are to start that climb tonight!
