Wilson returns as Rovers boss

Wilson, pictured, takes the helm for the first time on Saturday when Rovers host Maldon & Tiptree in the league at Burroughs Park after beating more than 30 other candidates to the post.

Named as the successor to Gary Ansell following his departure last week, former Rovers player Wilson has also coached at National League South outfit East Thurrock United since their promotion as Ryman Premier play-offs winners.

In a statement announcing Wilson's appointment on Monday, a Rovers spokesman said: “Keith’s management technique, structure, player contacts, future plans and overall passion for the club, won him a unanimous committee vote and we must now put our faith in him to start a rebuilding process to get the Rovers back on track.

"The committee realised that whoever was going to take the role would need to be given time, as this is not going to be an easy task, and we are all fully behind Keith and his team over the coming months to allow him to build the squad that he thinks will be able to do a job for us.”

Despite facing the toughest of starts with his new charges facing the league leaders at the weekend, Wilson can't wait to get started.

In an interview with the club's official website on Tuesday, he told fans: "I am obviously delighted to finally get the job. I have been approached twice before by the club concerning the manager's role only to lose out, the last time I think nearly a year ago to the day. So it is third time lucky in that respect.

"I can't deny it has been an ambition of mine to manage the club after spending two very happy spells here as a player. It is also a job I think I can be successful in. I know the club how it works and in time I am sure I can get it right and bring the feel good factor back to the club."
