With three points between twelfth and seventeenth, it’s a big night at the bottom

By Ian Townsend

We’ve three of our play off chasing sides in action this evening- but most of our focus is at the other end of the Pitching In Isthmian South East table

Cray Valley PM, in seventh place, make the trip to Mid Sussex this evening hoping to move up to sixth and close the gap between themselves and the top five to just one point. Standing in their way will be fifteenth place Burgess Hill Town, who need the points for entirely different reasons given that they are only one point above the bottom four. The Millers seem to be heading back to their best, three unbeaten and with seven points from nine; whilst the Hillians have one win and three defeats from their last four. The two sides meet again on April 1st.

Chichester City, five points behind fifth place Sevenoaks Town, are on the road to a side just outside the bottom four, Sittingbourne. City saw a long unbeaten run come to an end against Faversham Town at the weekend and will hope to get back to winning way, but a Brickies wall awaits! Sittingbourne have lost only two of their last ten matches, and have conceded only one goal in their last three hundred and sixty minutes of play. The two sides played out a one-one draw on November 5th.

Hythe Town are one of three sides on forty six points, five points away from fifth place. The Cannons have been in fine form, losing only one of their last ten matches, and they will put that record to the test at East Grinstead Town, the Wasps only three points above the bottom four. The hosts have fallen to defeat in their last four matches and need to bring that run to a swift end after conceding thirteen goals during that period and scoring only one.

Finally, Haywards Heath Town welcome Three Bridges in a Sussex derby. Heath find themselves third from bottom and two points from safety, so even a win tonight may not lift them out of the bottom four- but after an eight match winless run Jay Lovett’s side are in desperate need of three points. Visitors Three Bridges aren’t too much better off, with one win from their last ten, but have a five point advantage over their hosts.
