Woods get back to winning ways in style

By Ian Townsend

Northwood get five, Villa derail the Baggies bandwagon, whilst the Yellas win on the road. It’s our Pitching In Isthmian South Central round up

Badshot Lea took their fine run on the road last night, as they faced last seasons Play Off Finalists Hanworth Villa. The Baggies had taken twenty five points from their previous ten matches, and knew that a win would take them into the top five- but the Villains had rather different ideas.

Villa went ahead after just eleven minutes, Theo Crawford with the opener, and went two up when the ever-reliable Sam Merson added the second ten minutes after the restart- his eleventh of the campaign. It looked to be game over when Ben Geraghty made it three-nil with twenty five minutes left, but the Baggies finally got going, Anthony Mendy getting a goal back with fifteen minutes remaining. It turned out to be nothing more than a consolation, and Villa climb to eighth.

Northwood had a magnificent 22-23, but 23-24 had been a rather different beast prior to last night. At kick off the Woods found themselves out of the bottom two only on goal difference and seven points behind their visitors, Sutton Common Rovers- but finally things came together. It took only two minutes for Dan Williams to put the Woods ahead, and on twenty six minutes it was two-nil, Kofi Anokye-Boadi with his second of the campaign. Almost immediately Williams added a third, although Rovers gave themselves hope just before the break, Nabeel Ghannam replying.

If the game was still in the balance for most of the second half, that balance tipped firmly the way of the Woods with fourteen minutes left, Teddy Stacey adding a fourth, and with seven minutes left Williams took his tally for the season to twelve and earned himself a match ball, five-one the final score.

Corinthian-Casuals and Ascot United started the day with one place and one point between them, in favour of the side in pink and brown. Both sides had been struggling this season, the hosts taking eight points from the last thirty available, the visitors only seven, but they swapped places in the table- indeed, the Yellas climbed to sixteenth- as United won a tense encoounter.

Ascot’s Brendan Matthew hadn’t scored in his last three matches, but he quickly put that right, his eighteenth goal of the season arriving in just the eighth minute. The Yellas lead lasted only three minutes as Danny Campion, who has been in fine goalscoring form since joining the club, got his fifth in eight matches- but the visitors were ahead again just before the break through Oliver Harris, and this time they held onto it.

A note to our clubs- if you believe that any of the goals scored by your side was worthy of consideration for the 'Goal of the Month Award,' please feel free to upload it now using the link you were sent, don't feel that you have to wait until the end of the month!
