Woods lead cut to one- whilst Stoke hit EIGHT!

By Ian Townsend

Northwood are now only one point ahead of Marlow, who won again, whilst Basingstoke went goal crazy. It's our Pitching In Isthmian South Central round up.

Our leaders, Northwood, lost heavily at second place Marlow last time out- and another defeat has cut their lead at the top to just one point. All of the significant action came in the last quarter of an hour, Brendon Murphy-McVey giving South Park the lead, Noe Vendrells making quite sure with a second in added time right at the end. The Sparks find themselves outside the top five only on goal difference.

Marlow headed to West London to face Uxbridge. They had only one defeat from seven, and now it’s one defeat from eight- and they find themselves only a point behind the leaders with a game in hand after Toby Raggett got the only goal of the game. It came in the third minute, so we do hope that none of the spectators arrived late!

Walton and Hersham have been generally excellent at home- but sadly for Swans fans they were away, where they have been far more vulnerable. They were vulnerable once more, losing to Southall- the west Londoners getting revenge for two defeats at the hands of the Swans this season despite twice falling behind. Eddie Simon put the visitors ahead just before the break, and although Louis Stead quickly equalised from the spot Palace Francis almost immediately made it advantage to the visitors once more. The leveller came sixteen minutes from time, Anthony O’Connor restoring parity for a second time- and three minutes later Alabi Azeez Temitayo delivered a Southall winner. The Swans are fourth, their hosts are seventh- only a point outside of the top five.

Basingstoke Town had won five of their previous six, and looked impressive in doing so- but they delivered their performance of the season so far as Guernsey came to call. The Green Lions had been better on the road than at home, but any thoughts they had of victory were quickly undone, as Town were three up by half time, Ben Cook, Brody Peart and James Clark with the goals. Clark made it four shortly after the restart, an own goal brought up number five, and then Bradley Wilson took over, scoring a fourteen minute hat trick to take the tally to EIGHT. Stoke are third, only two points from the summit with a game in hand- and the best goal difference in the division.

Binfield had won three of their previous four and climbed into the top five, but they couldn’t get another victory against Chipstead. The Chips, five games unbeaten, took the lead just before the break, Thomas Smith with the goal, but the leveller arrived with twenty one minutes to go and both sides had to settle for a point. Liam Gavin got the equaliser.

Chertsey Town saw their four match unbeaten run come to an end at Chipstead last time out- and they travelled to face a Merstham side who were buoyed by their first victory. The Curfews went ahead with only sixteen minutes to go, Sam Murphy with the goal, but just before the end Charlie Greenwood earned his side a point from the spot.

Westfield had lost their way a little of late, with only two points from their previous twelve- but the Woking side travelled to Sutton Common Rovers and put things right, climbing back into the top five. The goals came in the first half, Troy Walters with the opener on twelve minutes and Isaac Charles with the second just before they all trooped off for an isotonic energy drink and a bowl of Haribo (other overly-sugared treats are available).

Bedfont Sports played host to Hanworth Villa, and neither side managed a goal. That wasn’t the whole story, however, as the Villains spent most of the match without a keeper, Tom Bender taking over in goal after an injury to Terry Buss.

Leatherhead welcomed Tooting & Mitcham United, and both sides had to settle for a point. The Terrors must have thought they had all three, as despite Kynan Kirlew-Wright’s red card they went ahead just after the hour, Jake Rose with the goal. The ten men just failed to hold out, the equaliser coming in the very last minute, Dave Tarpey earning the Tanners a point.

Finally, Ashford Town travelled to Thatcham Town. The Tangerines had a nine point advantage over their hosts at start of play, but that was cut to six as the Kingfishers got the only goal of the game in the thirteenth minute. It came from the spot, Cameron Rohaet-Brown converting, and it lifted the Kingfishers out of the bottom four.
