Wroxham's revenge!

By Ian Townsend

The Yachtsmen put five past Lowestoft, Witham and Swifts win again, Stow and Salamis march on- and in the League we have wins for Brentwood and Sports.

We had only two North Division matches due to Trophy commitments, and both involved sides at the bottom end of the table.

Brentwood Town welcomed Maldon & Tiptree, the Jammers without a manager but with the first goal of the game, Brad Ihionvein scoring after fourteen minutes. Matt Price then got in on the act, equalising for the hosts on sixty seven minutes and putting them ahead six minutes later, and Tom Richardson made sure of three points with a third goal four minutes from time. The Jammers remain without a point and rock bottom, whilst the Blues climb to thirteenth.

Hullbridge Sports picked up their first points of the campaign in midweek with a three-nil win over Tilbury, and hoped to build on that as Great Wakering Rovers came to call. Sports struck first, Alex Moss on half an hour, and it turned out that was the only goal of the game as the hosts leapfrogged their visitors in the table.

Chatham Town hoped to bounce back from cup defeat against Walton & Hersham in midweek by defeating Stowmarket Town, but Stow had other ideas. Kane Munday opened the scoring seven minutes from time, and that turned out to be the only goal.

Cray Valley PM had lost only one of their last eight matches in all competitions, and it took them only nineteen minutes to go ahead against East Thurrock United- Tom Chambers with the goal- but it was a short lived lead, Brian Moses scoring for the visitors. Just before the half time whistle sounded the Millers got their noses in front once more, Hassan Ibrahiym with the goal which sent home fans off for their half time beer in a good mood. They’d have been happier still when Dan Bennett made it three immediately after the restart, but the Rocks weren’t done yet, Harry Hope pulling a goal back from the spot. The Millers then hit top gear, Ibrahiym with number four and Adam Coombes getting a fifth, but the visitors then got the eighth goal of the game when Hope converted another spot kick. On this occasion, that turned out to be that- and our eight goal thriller was over.

Heybridge Swifts finally lost a match in midweek- their first defeat of the season- but it did come against National League South side Braintree Town, and it was close. They welcomed Pitching In Isthmian South Central Chipstead, and the Chips struck first, Jonathan Hood on the quarter hour. The lead didn’t last until half time, Ross Wall equalising with his fourth of the season, and with twelve minutes to go Andrew Fennell gave the hosts the lead- and, as it turned out, the win. That’s eight goals for Fennell so far- and the fans reaction to Fennell's winner is our headline image, courtesy of Alan Edmonds.

New Salamis hosted Coggeshall Town in an all-North encounter. After five games unbeaten, Salamis had lost their last two- but they went ahead in this one, George Lutaaya with the opener on twenty eight minutes. Derek Asamoah doubled the lead on the stroke of half time, and the game was effectively over when Taufee Skandari made it three just after the hour. The Seed Growers have only one win this season, and that came from a penalty shootout in the last round.

Witham Town are having a magnificent season, as were opponents Ware of Pitching In Southern Division One Central. Adam Vyse has been Town’s main man, and got his eighth goal of the season to give his side the lead on fourteen minutes, but they couldn’t hold onto it until the break, the equaliser arriving just before they all trooped off for an orange segment or two. The two couldn’t be separated until a minute from time, when Vyse grabbed the winner. That’s six wins from their last seven in all competitions for the Witham wonders.

Wroxham and Lowestoft Town met in the league only a few days ago, the Trawler Boys scoring three second half goals to continue their one hundred percent league record. The Yachtsmen had a quick chance of revenge, but were behind again before the half hour, Adam Hipperson opening the visitors tally- but then the game turned entirely on its head. Ryan Miles got the equaliser five minutes before the break, and then shortly after the restart Ryan Curtis put the hosts ahead. Matt Hayden then made it three-one with twenty minutes remaining, and then got another two minutes later, making it four-one. The Trawler Boys were well and truly undone when Miles made it five, nine minutes from time.
