Wyatt revival down to Ryman

Maldon & Tiptree starlet Ben Wyatt is being backed to be a big success at Colchester United after Ryman League football helped him earn his dream move back into the professional game.

Steve Ball, who knows him better than most after managing the former Ipswich Town and Norwich City youngster in Ryman North last season before leaving to become the assistant manager at the League One outfit, believes the 20-year-old will be fighting for a first team place before too long after signing a one year contract.

A member of Norwich’s FA Youth Cup-winning side from 2012-13, the former England U18s defender, pictured, followed striker Femi Akinwande to Colchester last week as part of their link-up with their Football League neighbours after impressing for the Jammers last term and collecting the fans', players' and manager's player of the year accolades at the Ryman North club's recent awards night.

Ball said: “The Maldon project means that Ben has experienced a year of playing against strong, athletic players, so he's had a good grounding before coming here. When he comes back in the summer, he’ll start with the U21s to get him used to the pace of the game compared to that at Maldon but, after a few months, I’m sure he will be looking to get involved with John McGreal and the first-team.”
