Last week Hendon FC went into their FA Trophy replay at Slough Town in the midst of a goalkeeping crisis, with first choice keeper Tom Lovelock confined to bed with flu. Greens manager Gary McCann didn’t hesitate, however- he simply called up Under 18’s stopper Dan Purdue, confident that Dan was the man! And by goodness he was right!
One hundred and twenty minutes later, after a confident display and with the scores tied at one-one, Dan proved entirely unfazed by the idea of a penalty shootout and saved two Hendon penalties (and there’s a sneaking suspicion he may have got his fingertips to a third, which hit the bar), as Hendon marched into the next round. Accordingly we have decided to award Dan with the Premier Division betting.net Performance of the Month Award, with the sneaking suspicion that this will be the first of many such accolades.
Our North Division honours go to Heybridge Swifts. It must be difficult for fans of Jody Brown’s side to pick out their favourite performances of what has been a magnificent season so far, but we felt that they deserved our accolade for the way that they disposed of Premier Division Kingstonian in their FA Trophy replay. Five-one, with the K’s consolation coming only three minutes from the end- that’s the kind of show that deserves plaudits!
Dan Purdue of Hendon in full flight!
The South Division winner is a Premier Division player, rewarded for his exploits when on loan at Carshalton Athletic. His first match as a Robin was at Hythe Town, and Omar Koroma didn’t disappoint, scoring four goals as his side came away with a 4-0 triumph. Omar has now returned to parent club Dulwich Hamlet, but we’re sure that Athletic would love to have him back!
Mitre Manager of the Month and Sells Safe Hands Awards winners will be announced shortly.
