Bostik Supporters Predictions 18/19: Maldon & Tiptree

Dave Garwood introduces the new campaign through the eyes of Maldon & Tiptree. And advises on Bob avoidance.

We asked supporters of our Bostik League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Dave Garwood steps up to give you the lowdown on the world of the Jammers!

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

Getting some revenge over near neighbours Heybridge Swifts by beating them 4- 2 at Christmas. Seeing Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe making his Football League debut for Colchester United and scoring a penalty.

2. And your worst moment?

Can't split these two. First being hammered 5-0 by Heybridge Swifts on August Bank Holiday Monday. Second, in the first week of January losing our two top goalscorers to Colchester United, losing our influential midfielder and Captain Matt Lock plus our goalkeeper which decimated the team and virtually meant we lost the chance of promotion.

3. How will you do this season?

The aim is automatic promotion- with a new manager charged with exactly this.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Coggeshall Town and Felixstowe and Walton to see how things have changed since we last played there some years ago as Tiptree United. It will also be good to again visit our friends at Great Wakering where we have always been made to feel very welcome

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Aveley have a very impressive facility but you cannot beat a local derby so Heybridge, Witham and now Coggeshall will have the best atmosphere

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

As Maldon and Tiptree have only been an amalgamated club since 2010 we haven't yet built up any great rivalry, but Maldon Town have had quite a long running verbal dialogue with Heybridge Swifts-probably due to the grounds only being about a mile apart- plus there have been rumbles of other matters but I have not been made aware of what these might be. In years past Tiptree United and Coggeshall Town were often at each others throats but this has probably now seen enough water under the bridge to have been forgotten. So I would say Heybridge are still seen as our main rivals with both clubs supporters keen to get the better of their opponents.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

If you arrive some time before kick off it would be worth walking down to The Promenade Park to see the Blackwater river estuary and visit the harbour area, where you can often see an impressive sight of a number of old Thames barges. One piece of advice is that you may wish not to be Bob'd. Bob is one of our most avid supporters but he can talk for England or talk the hind legs off a donkey, if you get my meaning. If he gets you within earshot you could be inundated with his family history for hours. The best advice is to respectfully move away.

The usual selection of food and drink is available from the club house or tea bar with access only through the turnstiles.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Although Junior Ogedi- Uzokwe and Liam Nash scored a lot of goals my choice is between Billy Roast or Matt Lock. I think Matt just edges it as he controlled the game from midfield and was an excellent captain.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Maldon & Tiptree, Heybridge Swifts, Bowers & Pitsea, Canvey Island, Coggeshall Town.
