Bostik Supporters Preview 17/18: Thurrock

By Ian Townsend

Another in our series of supporters predictions, this time featuring Tony Flood, who represents Thurrock.

We asked a supporter from each of our member clubs to answer the same series of questions as part of our preview of the new season. We also asked them to predict how their particular division would finish, from one to 24- and their answers will be revealed in a collection of Supporters Prediction Tables to be released the day before the big kick off.

Here are the answers of Tony Flood, representing Thurrock.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

Ronnie Winn smashing the ball in from the edge of the box in the playoff final to give us the goal that saw us promoted. We were in the top 6 for four years in a row and had lost in the last two playoffs, so we were desperate to get promoted. It was a great day for the club, probably the best since our Conference South days.

2. And what was the worst moment?

The aftermath of the Aveley game last season. The Aveley manager's behaviour saw him get a three-game ban and is something I’d rather forget.

3. How will you do this season?

I'm quietly confident about the season. I think we fill finish in higher mid-table and hopefully a cup run would be nice.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to- and why?

I'm looking forward to Dulwich Hamlet away as I have a couple of friends there, and also Harrow Borough away as it’s an easy one for me to get to, rather than the 100 mile round trip for a home game!

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Joint in this league! Enfield Town, nice place to visit and Met Police is wonderful!

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Grays Athletic, and unfortunately we haven't played them in a competitive game for a number of years. I am very hopeful of them coming up this year, but the North Division looks to be an unbelievable division with lots of competition.

7. What advice would you give to an away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Have the Fleet Burger. A double bacon cheeseburger from heaven.

8. Who is your favourite player (for your club) of all time- and why?

I'm going to cheat here. Jimmy McFarlane, the AFC Hornchurch manager. I’ve never seen a player with greater commitment, nearly 700 appearances for us and 75 goals. He once played a game 48 hours after dislocating his shoulder for the first time. They don't make them like that anymore! The other player has to be Cliff Akurang who scored 35 goals from right wing one season. Amazing ability and great running with the ball.

9. Finally, predict who will fill the top five positions at the end of the forthcoming season:

Billericay Town, Leatherhead, Dulwich Hamlet, Enfield Town, Brightlingsea Regent.
