Brickies are ready for take-off

Sittingbourne

An air traffic control fault grounded Sittingbourne last weekend but the Brickies believe their Ryman South season is ready for take off again after adding three new faces to their squad.

After missing out on a trip to Guernsey along with thousands of other stranded travellers around the UK, joint managers Matt Wyatt and Nick Davis are preparing to host Folkestone Invicta at Woodstock Park on Saturday. They've been boosted by the arrival defender Jono Richardson, winger Sam Beale and midfielder Joseph Odedima.

All three are available for selection at the weekend and Wyatt said: "They are good players with the right attitude and will strengthen the squad. They all did well in training this week and the other players commented on how good they looked. They’re also nice lads who fitted in well.

"They’re good players and they’re local players, who won’t be travelling an hour and a half for a game. There’s a blend of experience and keenness there, combined with the right attitude. This definitely gives us more strength in depth."

Richardson, 25, can operate at full-back or centre-half and was formerly a regular for Hastings in the Ryman Premier. He’s recently moved to Kent and was looking to join a club nearer home.

Beale, who kicked off his career at Brentford as a youngster, was previously at Margate and Tonbridge Angels and is looking to establish himself now at Ryman South level.

Odedima, has also moved to Kent recently and was looking for a club closer to home. The former Billericay star was part of Dulwich’s championship-winning team last season.
