Folkestone Invicta have strengthened their backroom team for the next season's Ryman South campaign with the addition of former Football League striker Jason Lillis.

As a player Lillis, pictured, enjoyed successful spells at the likes of Gillingham, Maidstone United, Walsall and Cambridge United before the 45-year-old went on to manage Maidstone, Herne Bay and Lordswood.

Invicta boss Neil Cugley was delighted to bring him on board at Fullicks Stadium earlier this week as preparations continue for the club's return to training.

Cugley said: “He’s always wanted to work with me and we’ve always got on well. He’s a bubbly and enthusiastic character who is keen to help us kick on to a higher level. Jason’s doing his coaching A-Licence up at the FA headquarters, St George’s in a few weeks’ time and will be an excellent addition to our backroom team.”

Cugley has also confirmed that Roland Edge, another ex-Gills’ player, will continue as his assistant manager when the new season kicks off on Saturday 8 August.

He added: “I’m no great believer in titles and I’m sure we can all work together really well."

* Invicta have added two more friendlies to their pre-season schedule. On Tuesday 21 July, what may well be a ‘mixed squad’ visit Kent Invicta League side Lydd Town. Folkestone complete their pre-season run with a trip to Southern Counties East League outfit Corinthian on Saturday 1 August.
