Hythe climb into top five

By Peter Butcher

THE most significant of tonight's four Ryman League matches was at Burgess Hill, where Hythe's 1-0 victory lifted them into a Ryman South play-off spot.

They had to wait until the 85th minute for their goal, which came from Brendon Cass (pictured).

The other match in the division was scoreless, as bottom club Three Bridges survived the late arrival of their goalkeeper and the second-half dismissal of Yaw Boateng to earn a point at Herne Bay. They are still six points adrift of Walton Casuals and have played two more games.

One of the two games in Ryman North also finished without a goal. That was at Waltham Forest, where Wroxham were the visitors, and it took the tally of 0-0 draws in the league since Saturday to 13.

Forest skipper Adrian Clifton came closest to breaking the deadlock, having a shot cleared off the line midway through the second half and hitting a long-range rocket in added time which was very well saved by Jake Jessup.

Needham Market continued to improve their home record by beating table-proppers Ilford 3-0. After going 14 games without success on their own ground, the Marketmen have entertained the bottom three clubs in the division in the space of ten days and beaten them all.

Kieran Leabon set them on their way with a first-minute opener and Sam Newson added two more, in the 21st and 47th minutes.
