Isthmian Charity Shield

Two Essex rivals battle for the first silverware of the new campaign

Saturday 28th July will see the first trophy of the new season fought over, as the Isthmian League Charity Shield kicks off at the Prospects Stadium.

Traditionally the match is played between the League and Cup winners, both of whom were Billericay Town. As Billericay obviously couldn't play against themselves, the League Board nominated AFC Hornchurch- who of course won the North Division by a significant margin- as their opponents, but the Blues, preparing for life in National League South, decided not to take part. As such, because they felt that a derby match would raise more funds for charity, the Board plumped for Canvey Island as the opposition- so we're all off to the seaside on 28th- 3PM kick off.

Three charities will benefit. These will be the League's chosen charity, the London Playing Fields Foundation, and two nominated by the clubs- The Danny Green Fund and Haven House Children's Hospice.

If the match ends level after 90 minutes, we will go straight to penalties to decide a winner.
