It’s a big night at the bottom!

By Ian Townsend

The bottom three in the Premier Division are in action tonight- and we also have matches in the North and South East Divisions. Much better than that tournament for people who weren’t actually Champions at all…

We’ve two matches at the wrong end of the Premier Division tonight that might be critical when we get to the business end of the season. Firstly, you might recall that we were at the Enclosed Ground for our Bostik Matchday Feature back in December, as Whitehawk took on Burgess Hill Town, and both teams took on Storm Dierdre. We got thirty minutes of football, two goals, and Dierdre won as the game was abandoned- and you can read about it HERE. Anyway, tonight we try again, with the Hillians now rock bottom after a four-nil home thrashing by Tonbridge Angels, whilst the Hawks have jumped a place courtesy of a 1-0 win over Tonbridge Angels and a slightly less disastrous goal difference. The Hawks are the form team of the two- although that might be overstating things somewhat- with two wins, two draws and two defeats from their last six- whilst the Hillians have but one point from their last eighteen.

Two points and one place above the Hawks, Wingate and Finchley managed to first concede and then score two stoppage time goals at Folkestone Invicta on Saturday to claim a draw, and victory tonight could lift them out of the bottom three and dump another set of Hawks, Harlow Town, into trouble. Summers Lane welcomes a Bishop’s Stortford side who will be looking to get back to winning ways after a loss and a draw in their last two, but the Blues have won only one of their last five away matches. Mind you, Wingate & Finchley have only won one of their last six at home, so make of that what you will!

In the North Division, Brentwood Town entertain AFC Sudbury. Neither are in good form, the home side having won only one of their last six whilst the yellows have done slightly better with two victories in the same period- but both sides have shown some fine form on other occasions this season so the outcome will depend on which Brentwood and Sudbury turn up. One thing we do know is that the pitch seems in lovely condition, as demonstrated by the image above borrowed from the Town Twitter feed.

Finally, in the South East Division Haywards Heath Town could go level on points with third place Ashford United and fourth place Horsham if they can defeat Faversham Town at Hanbury Park, whilst Faversham could climb to thirteenth if they leave with an away victory. Both are in good form- Faversham had gone four matches unbeaten before their reverse at Hastings United on Saturday, whilst Heath have won four in a row. Heath have a very good home record, but have had a bit of a blip at Hanbury Park of late, losing two of their last three- but Faversham have been terrible on the road, with only four points from their last thirty.

All matches kick off at 7.45 PM.
