The fans, players and officials of Ware are mourning the passing of one of the Ryman North club's unsung heroes.

Officials at Wodson Park are planning to hold a minute's silence before their next home game in memory of Audrey Mynott, the wife of vice chairman and groundsman Aiden Mynott and mother to former club secretary Sean and former bar manager Kieran.

The Blues say their players will also wear black armbands when they kick off against Thamesmead Town next weekend after Mrs Mynott passed away this week aged 69. A well-known and loved figure around the club for many years, Mrs Mynott had been suffering from the onset Alzheimer's disease.

In a statement on their official website, the Blues offered their condolences to the Mynott family and paid a warm tribute to their late volunteer who always carried out her many roles, including ensuring that everybody was always well fed at the Hertfordshire club, with a smile and kind word.

The club said: "Audrey was known to many of us for reasons beyond just her family connections. For many years she was the cheerful face behind the tea bar counter, the person we turned to for a hot drink and a burger, and always delivered with a smile.

"She was also responsible for the players' and officials' refreshments after the match, perhaps something less well known to any supporters who left for home after the final whistle. Once again it was service with a smile but a smile that began to dim with the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

"Most of us will know or come to know the grief caused by the loss of a loved one. But the tragedy of seeing someone once vibrant and active brought progressively lower by the onset of dementia must be a particularly painful situation to bear, one that thankfully fewer of us have to face. But that was not the case with Aiden, Kieran and Sean.

"Through it all they showed her patience and love; and they never gave the outside world any glimpse of the sadness, frustration and goodness knows what else they must have been suffering. To them we can only offer our sympathies as they come to terms with a life without Audrey."
