Saunders is the man for Margate

Coup for Gate as highly regarded former Maidstone boss takes over

Earlier today Margate announced that joint-managers Steve Brown and Mike Sandmann would be joint no longer, as Brown had left the club. Was Sandmann going to continue on his own?

Not for long, as the Hartsdown Park club have now announced the appointment of former Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders!

Saunders, a Margate legend as a player, then became a Maidstone legend as a manager, taking the club to a succession of promotions and unprecedented success during seven years in charge before surprisingly leaving the club in August- ironically to be, temporarilly at least, replaced by former Gate boss Steve Watt. Now he is back at the club where he first arrived as a fresh-faced nineteen year old, with the challenge of turning around their fortunes as they have fallen to within five places of the relegation places.

He will be working alongside Mike Sandmann, and their first test will be a trip to Tonbridge Angels on Saturday.
