A crucial night at the bottom

By Ian Townsend

Tilbury welcome Brentwood Town and Wroxham host Gorleston as the Pitching In Isthmian North relegation race reaches a critical point

There is still much to play for at the bottom of the North Division, and with two of our bottom six featuring tonight the outcomes may prove critical. The three members of the bottom four who aren’t in action, Hullbridge Sports, Great Wakering Rovers and Coggeshall Town, already know that their only possible escape route is via the relegation play offs, but Tilbury still have higher aspirations, difficult as they may be to achieve. Six points away from safety with three matches to go-and with an inferior goal difference than the two sides above them, Witham Town and Gorleston- the visit of Brentwood Town tonight looks like a must-win. Brentwood are in decent form, with only one defeat from their last ten; whilst the Dockers have improved of late but still have only two wins from the same period- although they did arrive in their last five matches. When the two sides met on January 2nd, Town triumphed by four goals to two.

Gorleston may be only six points clear of the bottom four, but the Greens do have one or two games in hand over the sides chasing them- and one more win will guarantee safety. They were in great form- seven unbeaten- until facing our top two in their last two matches, but they face another side in good form as they travel to Wroxham. The Yachtsmen have only two defeats from ten, and a win tonight would take them into the top ten for the first time this season. They did defeat the Greens when they last met on January 2nd, two-one.

Both matches kick off at 7.45 PM.
